Settling In.

Tomorrow it will be 2 weeks since we moved into our new house. We have done so much and there is still so much more to do.

We got up the trampoline we had been promising Beg forever and sure enough she loves it. We bought a cheap box of outdoor games from Tesco and spent the whole weekend in the garden it was lovely and just what we had envisioned for our new home.

Lots of friends and family came to visit and it felt like the house was open doors it was wonderful. We’ve moved into a new build house on a massive new estate in the next town over, and we have 2 friends who live here too so we are literally round the corner from them both and from church which is great.

I’m a believer in good energy so I was thrilled to have friends & family round warming our house up and making it a home. Even though there are still lots of boxes to unpack friends don’t mind do they! So I am hoping it is a trend that will continue.

Getting used to living in a new area is a big change for us as me and hubby are both born and bred in the town we lived in and even though it’s only over the hill it’s a different council and schools and such like. It’s tempting to stay in and sort the house out and I do walk around it mentally listing all the things I have to do which is an anxiety ridden activity! I am caring for a 4 month old and generally laundry-ing as per too. But I have also been trying to get out a little bit and explore the area, and I suppose claim it for home.
There is a library literally accross the road which is a bonus for me. It’s typically Welsh too. By that I mean it’s in an old chapel. We went over and joined up last week as Beg was off school with tonsilitis and we started her first Roald Dahl book – James and the Giant Peach. Which actually opens with the death of a child’s parents which was slightly disconcerting. Anyway, I also went for a walk today too and it dawned on me how much I take for granted living in Wales. The views around here are stunning, lush green mountains and there’s a big old church just up the road I must have driven past a hundred times. Exploring on foot gave me time to have a good nosey. (I’m just snapping on my phone I’m afraid I need to up my photography game.)

My husband is away all this weekend watching car racing. Really bad timing as there is so much to do! But I suppose there is always, always so much to do isn’t there.
Have you moved house? How did you make it feel like home in those early weeks? Leave a comment and let me know. 🙂

    1. Thanks Bread. Funnily enough my neighbour just corrected me today and said it was built by Andrew Carnegie and it was built as a library apparantly. Sorry to mis-lead! I will have to post a picture one day so you can see why I thought that. Thanks for stopping by to comment 🙂

  1. Both one of the most exciting and most stressful times in life is moving house!! Glad you’re feeling a bit more settled – we moved in December and still have stuff in boxes in the garage!! Enjoy your new home #KCACOLS

  2. Your new home is lovely and you have already started to build lots of lovely memories. The trampoline will be the most used toy you will ever own. I can see it’s also a little tough at first and getting used to the unknown. Great that you have friends close by and kids are a great way of making new ones. Enjoy! #KCACOLS

  3. We’ve been in our house three years and there’s still things I’d like to do – I think there always will be! We installed a trampoline in the garden as well. It’s brilliant – tires them out as well as being nearly impossible for them to hurt themselves! #KCACOLS

  4. Congrats on the move! It’s lovely that you managed to get everyone round for a housewarming too. 🙂 We moved to our current place when I was 8 months pregnant which wasn’t the best idea I’ve ever had. Still, I mostly got to direct people carrying heavy stuff, so it had its upside! #KCACOLS

  5. Oh congratulations on your new home! We moved last October to our forever home . We spent two solid weeks decorating and unpacking and moved in as though the house was always ours. And then the panic and regret set in. The transition was huge! We moved from my home town to 20 minutes into the countryside. We’re surrounded by field s and only a couple of neighbours. It was dark and wet and felt lonely! Took is a month to settle in properly and get over those feelings and now we absolutely love it! #KCACOLS

  6. Moving can be very stressful but such an fun new adventure for a family. We have been our house now for three years and while we aren’t big fans of the neighborhood have enjoyed making the house more into a home. It looks like you are off to a great start! I love the trampoline 🙂 #KCACOLS

  7. Ahh Kate you have a lovely home! Look at that garden with the trampoline! You daughter is definitely having the best time ever. Bless her! How nice that you have some friends next door. That is just amazing! I really would like to move to a bigger place with a garden. We live in a flat in London although it is well located (just 15 minutes in the tube to Central London) it is starting to feel too small for us but searching around for houses is just too expensive so not sure if I will ever achieve that dream. Well, maybe some day! Well done for a moving and have most sorted within 2 weeks. Hope you manage to finish the rest soon. Thanks so much for sharing this at #KCACOLS. It is lovely to have you, 🙂 xx

    1. Thanks Franca! I think she’s having a good time too, lovely of you to say thanks. I had family in London (shepards bush) and Surrey, they both moved this year, but for what their properties were worth you could have a house with a swimming pool down here in S.Wales! Luckily for us house prices are comparitively low compared to the rest of the country but it’s a beautiful place to live. I love seeing all the things you do though living in London, like the Pets movie screening. Thanks for hosting #KCACOLS it’s the best linky. 🙂
